Seminar on Ocean Electronics & Information Technology Held in SIAT

The seminar on ocean electronics & information technology was successfully held in Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT, CAS) on April 9-10, 2014. Prof. Stanley Kim Juniper, Mr. Scott Donald McLean and Mr. Gordon Robert Rees from Ocean Networks Canada (ONC), University of Victoria, and Prof. Jun Li from University of Waterloo were invited to the seminar.

Firstly, Prof. Jiancheng Lv, vice president of SIAT, gave the welcoming speech. Then, Prof. Guoqing Xu, director of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Integration Technology (SIAIT), introduced the scientific research of SIAIT and the development planning on marine information and equipments. Mr. Scott McLean, director of Ocean Networks Canada Innovation Center, introduced the general information of ONC and the construction of the world’s first deep-sea observatory NEPTUNE. He also recommended their research program on marine technology and the marine industry. Prof. Jun Li presented his research of marineSAR -monitoring canadian waters using RADARSATS. The researchers of SIAIT, Prof. Fengqi Yu, Dr. Kai He, Dr. Yuming Dong, Dr. Qi Zhang and Dr. Xiaoyun Li, gave speeches on the research of the marine information platform, marine equipments and marine environment monitoring. Dr. Wei Feng, assistant to SIAT president, and Dr. Peng Zhang, associate director of Scientific Research Department, and Prof. Qingshan Jiang also participated in the seminar. The seminar was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere and all attendees benefitted a lot.

Director of ocean economy department from Economy, Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality attended the meeting in the afternoon and introduced the development of Shenzhen marine industry. Then the experts discussed the international cooperation on ocean electronic industry in Shenzhen.

The experts visited the related coastal areas in the east of Shenzhen in April 10. Finally, SIAIT and ONC signed a memorandum of understanding to establish technical cooperation.
