On Tuesday, Sept. 9rd, Professor Jack W. Szostak, from Harvard University, the winner of Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, with the invitation from President Fan Jianping, came to Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, visited SIAT, and gave a report named The Origin of Cellular Life.

During the report, Professor Jack W. Szostak provided detailed information about the Origin of Cellular Life. Due to the complexity of contemporary age species, made people difficult to understand how life can abiogenesis from primitive period on the Earth, Professor Jack W. Szostak and his research team tried to synthesis simple artificial cells, and found the reasonable approach which chemical reaction could went into biology. They also found that the circumstances have rich chemical reactions, can supply chemical energy sources which are the assemble substances for membrane, nucleic acid and polypeptide, this may results in duplicable and evolutionary cells.

The students and teachers from SIAT carefully listened Professor Jack W. Szostak’s report, and heated discussed about academic problems.

Jack William Szostak is a Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, along with Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider, for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres.
