Research leadership and collaboration: 

  

In the capacity of principal investigator, I received around HK$39 millions funding support in the areas of virtual medicine, virtual anatomy, surgical simulation, and medical imaging. Major funded projects include our university’s only CRC project (RGC Co-operative Research Centres Scheme), RGC Central Allocation Grant project and several Innovation and Technology grants. 

  

Serve as the founding Director of CUHK Virtual Reality, Visualization and Imaging Research Centre since 1999. The centre has become a major research and technology showcase at CUHK. Currently there are 9 graduate students and 7 research staff doing research under my supervision in the following areas: surgical simulation, medical imaging and computer graphics. 

  

Serve as the PI and Director of CUHK Designated Strategic Research Area in Computer-Assisted Medicine during 2000 to 2009, and over the years established a strong R&D track record and built a solid foundation to take up large-scale collaborative R&D projects, especially in the area of computer-assisted medicine. 

  

Serve as the founding Director of Centre for Human-Computer Interaction, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Integration Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences/CUHK since Sept. 2006.
