Academician Jay D. Keasling visiting SIAT, discussing the cooperation of Shenzhen-California Synthetic Biology Joint Research Center
Academician Jay D. Keasling visited Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Science (SIAT) on Aug. 24, discussed the cooperation of Shenzhen-California Synthetic Biology Joint Research Center, with the aim to promote the projects of American California industrializing in Shenzhen, and accelerate the transfer and transformation of the achievements of synthetic biology. Jay D. Keasling was appointed as the distinguish visiting professor of Center for Synthetic Biology Engineering Research (CSynBER) of SIAT at this visiting, and he will construct Jay D. Keasling Synthetic Biology Laboratory with SIAT.
For the further construction of integrated innovation chain from basic research to industrial transformation, promote the development of Shenzhen synthetic biology, accelerate the projects of American California industrializing in Shenzhen, and facilitate the industrialization of synthetic biology achievements, participating experts discussed the specific research content of Shenzhen-California Synthetic Biology Joint Research Center, combined with Academician Keasling’s team and a number of research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ forces, China and the United States can expand in-depth cooperation around the botanical biosynthesis and renewable biological products and biofuels.
The symposium was initiated by the CSynBER, and was successfully held under the strong support of SIAT. The symposium played an important role in the development of synthetic biology industry in Shenzhen and even throughout the country. Next, the CSynBER will actively promote the cooperation as soon as possible landing.

Jay D. Keasling is a Professor of Chemical engineering and Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and chief executive officer of the Joint BioEnergy Institute.He is considered one of the foremost authorities in synthetic biology, especially in the field of metabolic engineering. He received Scientist of the Year, Discover Magazine, 2006. As the sponsor, he has set up the US listed companies Amyris, LS9 and Lygos Company. Among them, Amyris Company for the first time designed and built the production of antimalarial drugs artemisinin microbial, has become a synthetic biology industrialization and commercial success of the model.
