Prof. Nikos K.Logothetis, the Academician of German National Academy of Sciences visits SIAT

Prof. Nikos K.Logothetis, the Academician of the German National Academy of Sciences, Professor of Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and Prof. Oxana.Eschenko visited Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Science (SIAT) on Aug. 12. and conducted academic exchanges at SIAT’s invitation. The symposium was hosted by Robert Desimone, the Director of Mcgovern Brain Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Academician of American Academy of Sciences. The attendee including FENG Guoping, Professor of Mcgovern Brain Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, WANG Liping, the Director of Institute of Brain Disorder and Brian Disease of SIAT, and attracted teachers and students from SIAT and other Universities in Shenzhen.

 

Prof. Robert Desimone introduced Prof. Nikos K.Logothetis’s academic career at the beginning of the symposium. As the Director of Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and Academician of the German National Academy of Sciences, Prof. Nikos K.Logothetis constantly strives to develop analytic brain function technologies like electrophysiology and neuroimaging. A series of his research has provided new perspective for the people understanding and learning brain function and its state, and how brain influence neural circuit information processing. For instance, he discovered the relationship between BOLD response and neuronal activity firstly, provided theoretical basis for understanding how fMRI functional magnetic resonance imaging data response to brain activity.

 

Prof. Nikos K.Logothetis gave the report named ofLarge-Scale Brain Networks: Mapping Dynamic Connectivity in Epochs of Synapticand System Consolidation, he meticulously introduced his lab applied high field functional imaging and multi locus electrophysiological recording method, studying the memory consolidation which has relationship with system and synaptic dynamic connectivity. His team broke the core technology, electrophysiological recording of extracellular nerve in multiple brain regions under the high field magnetic resonance, which has troubled global researchers

, developed brand-new research methods like NET-fMRI(neural-event-Triggered fMRI)、MSA(Multi-Structure-Activity)、DES-fMRI.

 

During the symposium, the attendees discussed relative technology and science questions. Prof. Nikos K.Logothetis visited Institute of Brain Disorder and Brian Disease of SIAT, hoping the next deep cooperation.
